TWO- DAY INTENSIVE POWER OF PODCASTING COURSE with SIOBHAN MCHUGH
DAY ONE: 09.00 – 11.00: Theory of Narrative Podcasts: Overview
Critique of internationally acclaimed podcasts, analysing common characteristics and distinguishing aspects to see how they achieve impact
11.00- 13.00: Adapting Stories to the AUDIO medium
This session focuses on scripting, delivery, optimising pace and achieving storytelling-through-sound.
14.00- 17.00: MASTERCLASS – MAKING THE GREATEST MENACE
Rare insider session, in which Siobhan will reveal how this multi-awardwinning investigative podcast was made: using before and after examples of script and audio, she will show how 126 hours of recorded interviews and actuality were sculpted into eight compelling episodes.
DAY TWO: 09.00 – 13.00: MAKING THE LAST VOYAGE of the PONG SU and other investigative journalism podcast hits.
The Last Voyage of the Pong Su is a ten-part podcast that investigates how and why a North Korean cargo ship dropped 150 kilos of heroin on an isolated Australian beach in 2003. Using actual script iterations, this session will break down how ‘Pong Su’ and other hit journalism podcasts move from conception to execution.
14.00- 17.00. BRAINSTORMING YOUR PROJECTS: IDEA to DELIVERY
This session is dedicated to workshopping YOUR podcast story ideas. This can include working on rough scripts to polish and finesse, and/or listening to sample podcast drafts. It will also discuss marketing, publication and cultivating an audience
